Each year, GMC Prep School remembers the life and legacy of the Honorable W.J. Usery Jr. as his love of GMC Prep and his generosity were once again highlighted as the winners of the Class of 2021 W.J. Usery Essay Scholarship Contest were awarded. For the third year, every GMC Prep Senior was asked to take some time to reflect on “What GMC Prep Has Meant to Me” or “The Impact GMC Prep Has Had on Me” and submit an essay to capture their reflection. The essays were touching to read and all included many examples of how our students have grown and matured during their time with us as they have “developed their intellect and elevated their character” in an environment where “duty, honor, country” truly become words to live by. We know that Secretary Usery would be so touched by the messages in the essays and we are proud to honor him in this unique and special way. After much thought and discussion, the top 3 essays were selected as this year’s scholarship winners.
Congratulations to Colby Sanford (1st place), Morgan Davis (2nd place), and Stella Glover (3rd place)! These winners have been awarded with $1500, $1000, and $500, respectively, in scholarship monies to be used toward their post-secondary pursuits. It is our sincere hope that the words and the thought behind them will echo what we know Secretary Usery believed – taking advantage of the opportunities offered at GMC Prep can change one’s life.
