Kristen Owen, Prep ’11
2026 GMC Service Award
For Kristen Owen, Georgia Military College has been part of her story for much of her life. A proud member of the GMC Prep Class of 2011 and third-generation GMC graduate, she returned to her alma mater as an educator and now spends each day helping shape the next generation of GMC students.
As a student at GMC Prep, Kristen was involved in athletics, academics, and student life. She played softball and was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and yearbook staff. One lesson from those years has remained especially important to her: “attention to detail.” A phrase reinforced throughout her GMC experience, Kristen says it continues to shape the decisions she makes both professionally and personally.
Kristen has been a high school English teacher for 12 years and is now in her fifth year teaching at GMC Prep, where she currently teaches ninth-grade English. Her commitment to students reaches well beyond the classroom. She sponsors Senior Beta Club and Chick-fil-A Leader Academy and has devoted her time to numerous student activities and traditions, including Casino Night and Prom. Through each of these roles, she creates opportunities for students to develop as leaders, serve others, and build meaningful connections to their school.
Her commitment to GMC also extends beyond the Prep School. This year, Kristen and her family are sponsoring two Junior College Plebes, welcoming them into their lives and helping make their GMC experience feel like a home away from home.
That spirit of service carries into the Milledgeville community as well. Kristen attends Northridge Christian Church and participates in community service projects through her church and other local organizations.
For Kristen, returning to GMC has brought her journey full circle, from a student shaped by the institution to a teacher, mentor, and alumna now helping shape those who follow her. Her connection to GMC is woven into both her professional and personal life, and she continues to give her time and talents to the students and institution she loves.
Kristen and her husband, Wynn, are the parents of their one-year-old daughter, Audrey. Together, they continue to make service and involvement in their community an important part of their family life.
