Joe Duke, Prep ’76
2026 Alumni Achievement Award
For Joe Duke, a life of leadership and service began early at GMC Prep School and grew into more than three decades of ministry that has reached people and communities around the world.
While at GMC, Joe served as High School Battalion Commander and was involved throughout campus life. He played football, tennis, and track, participated on the debate team and in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was a member of the National Honor Society. During his senior year, he received the MT4 Superior Cadet Award.
After GMC, Joe attended Asbury College, now Asbury University, before earning his Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. His calling to ministry ultimately led him to Maryland, where he and a group of approximately 25 people set out to create a different kind of church, one focused on connecting the truths of the Gospel to everyday life. That small gathering became LifePoint Church, where Joe served as pastor for more than 35 years. Under his leadership, the church grew to more than 2,000 people, developing a ministry whose influence has extended well beyond its local community.
Joe has worked with communities affected by earthquakes in Haiti and Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, taught seminary students and pastors in Guatemala, Rwanda, and Burundi, and met with leaders in Spain and Morocco. After retiring from LifePoint Church, he founded GraceWorks International, where he serves as Founder and Executive Director and continues his life’s work of helping others understand grace and grow in their faith. He is also a writer and speaker whose work has appeared in several publications, and he is the author of Reflections: Words to Inspire, Challenge, and Encourage You.
He and his wife, Tricia, recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. Tricia is an orthopedic nurse practitioner and has been his partner throughout decades of church and ministry work. They have two sons, both married, and six grandchildren.
Nearly 50 years after his graduation from GMC Prep, Joe continues to demonstrate the leadership, commitment to others, and spirit of service that were already evident during his years as a GMC cadet.
Georgia Military College is honored to recognize Joe Duke with the 2026 Alumni Achievement Award.
