GMC ALUMNI AWARDS

The Georgia Military College Alumni Awards are presented annually to recognize the achievements and contributions of GMC Alumni and Friends in their profession, to society, and ultimately to Georgia Military College. Each recipient shall be an individual in good standing with GMC and the GMC Alumni Association who recognizes and exemplifies the Core Values of “Duty, Honor, Country” and the regimental accolade, “Character Above All.” The nominee’s interest and loyalty should be evident to the entire GMC community and the GMC Alumni Association. This will be a person of such integrity, stature, and demonstrated ability that alumni, faculty, staff and students will take pride in and be inspired by their selection.

NOMINATIONS

Nominations should provide a narrative of the nominee’s life and accomplishments that make it clear to the reader. Nominators should provide detailed, concise support for their nomination through the online form. Nominations may be submitted via email if necessary to alumni@gmc.edu. Recipients of each award are reviewed and selected by the Alumni Association Executive Committee and approved by the President of GMC. Awards are presented to recipients during Alumni Weekend. Nominees must agree to be present for the awards presentation with the exception of posthumous awards. Nominators will be notified of the results of their nomination. * represents a mandatory field

Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is given to an alumnus of GMC who has distinguished themselves in their personal and professional life in an outstanding manner and in so doing has brought honor upon themselves and GMC. They have exhibited distinction in three areas: professional achievement, service to society and ideally, in service and support to GMC. Throughout their careers, these distinguished graduates have made significant societal contributions while upholding the highest standards and values in their efforts.

* This is a lifetime achievement recognition and is the highest award presented by the Georgia Military College Alumni Association. Due to its high honor, it will not necessarily be presented each year.
Honorary Alumnus Award

The Honorary Alumnus Award is given to an individual who is not an alumnus of GMC, but who has rendered exceptional and conspicuous service to GMC. They will have demonstrated a continuing interest in and devotion to GMC. They must have contributed time, talent or philanthropic support to one or more programs to benefit GMC.

This is an exclusive award and will not necessarily be presented each year.
Alumni Achievement Award

The Alumni Achievement Award is given to an alumnus who has attained extraordinary personal, professional and/or community accomplishments that are worthy of recognition. These should reflect the foundational principles and values instilled at GMC.

This is an annual award and may be presented to more than one nominee.
Emerging Young Alumni Leader Award

The Emerging Young Alumni Leader Award is given to an alumnus of GMC who is no more than 35 years old. They are recognized for contributions in one or more of the following areas: making outstanding contributions to their chosen profession; personal achievements that bring great honor to the individual and to GMC; demonstrating unquestionably positive and broadly acknowledged service and commitment to their community.

This is an annual award and may be presented to more than one nominee.
GMC Service Award

The GMC Service Award is designated for alumni or friends of GMC who have rendered special service to the school or any of its ancillary organizations. They have demonstrated involvement in campus and community organizations and activities. It reflects leadership in volunteer areas, projects and fundraising efforts. This is the highest recognition and greatest expression of appreciation extended to an individual by the GMCAA and is given for outstanding service and volunteerism.

This is an annual award and may be presented to more than one nominee.
Community Service Award
The Community Service Award recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated exemplary community service. This has been demonstrated by serving in a long-term volunteer capacity, having an impact on the life of others, providing leadership and creativity in dealing with societal problems and serving as an inspiration for others. This individual inspires and engages others towards community service.

This is an annual award and may be presented to more than one nominee.
Military Service Award

The Military Service Award is given to an alumnus who is in the military as Active Duty, Reserves, National Guard or is a Veteran (honorable discharge required.) The recipient is selected for rendering unusual and conspicuous service in an act of humanity, heroic effort or action in battle, or in extraordinary service to their city, state or nation. This award will not necessarily be presented each year. This award may be presented posthumously to the recipient’s family.
Alumni Fallen Heroes Recognition

The Alumni Fallen Heroes Award is presented on behalf of an alumnus who has served as a First Responder or through military service and has sacrificed their life in the line of duty. This individual’s heroic actions were in extraordinary service to protect other individuals.

This award will not be presented each year. This award will be presented posthumously to the recipient’s family. This recognition may be presented to more than one nominee.
