Campaign Spotlights

2LT Gerard Davis

2LT Gerard Davis (JC 2017) is a true GMC Corps of Cadets success story. As a high school
student at Dodge County High School in Eastman, Georgia, Davis decided to enlist in the Army
National Guard to receive the State Service Scholarship. Davis was a JROTC Cadet under CSM
Steve Greer, current Vice Principal at GMC Preparatory School. The State Service Scholarship
Program is a merit-based and competitive student financial aid program that provides funding
covering the full cost of education for two years at GMC. Recipients incur an obligation to serve
as a commissioned officer in the Georgia National Guard after graduation. This program enables
outstanding Georgia students to attend Georgia Military College and then serve their state and
country as officers in the Georgia National Guard.

2LT Davis attended basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma after graduating from high school in
July 2015, and then went on to Advanced Individual Training in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri,
where he trained as an 88M Transportation (Motor Transport Operator). Upon returning home in
November 2015, Davis knew he wanted to continue on with his education, and he started his
journey in the GMC Corps of Cadets in winter 2015.

“GMC was the start of my career. Being in the Corps gave me time to consider the path I wanted
to take in my civilian and military career. The small class sizes and the connection with my
professors and teachers helped to aid in my educational development, too,” noted Davis. Davis
shared that going into the Corps was an easy transition as he already had military experience and
that the Corps made it very easy to focus on academics as well as on personal and leadership
development.

“The Corps of Cadets gives you a sense of discipline. Without discipline, no one would be able
to be successful. It takes a certain amount of discipline to be focused on what is needed to
succeed. The Cadet Corps triggers a discipline shift within the cadets, which helps them to
evolve into leaders,” shared Davis when reflecting on how GMC prepares Cadets for the future.
After graduating from the Corps of Cadets in FA2017, 2LT Davis went on to attend, Georgia
Southern University, where he earned his BS in Supply Chain Management in December 2020.
Davis, having been enlisted in the Georgia National Guard since 2015, knew that there was a
high chance he would not live in Georgia due to the career field he had chosen. So, he
commissioned in the Army Reserves as a 2LT so he could be more mobile in his military career.

In his civilian life, 2LT Davis currently works at Amazon as an Area Manager. He lives in
Chester, Virginia. “Amazon is a continuously growing business with opportunities opening all
over the world, and the Army Reserves are more flexible with my civilian career choice,” noted
2LT Davis. 2LT Davis works at Amazon DRC1 out of Richmond, VA which is a delivery station
that sorts, picks, and delivers Amazon customer’s packages. 2LT Davis notes that beginning his course of study at GMC in small class settings with professors who truly cared about his success are what propelled him to achieve great things early on in life.

“In order to be a great leader, your character is what defines you. The way you act, talk, and
think transfers to how your peers are going to view you. I have come to understand and realize
that the ideals of duty, honor, and country mean more than just as service to myself, but also to
the individuals that look to me as a leader. ‘Character Above All’ means so much more than
what others see on the outside. It matters how you act, talk, and think daily even when no one
appears to be looking,” shared 2LT Davis.

2LT Davis is a brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporation, and enjoys speaking to youth
through mentorship, community involvement, working out, and competing in body building.
He plans to continue to advance his career at Amazon and create more ways to serve his
community through his involvement in Omega Psi Phi. He has a goal to provide scholarships to
JROTC high school seniors who are interested in furthering their education and pursuing a
military career.
